Toponymy locator

The Galician Toponymy Project (PTG) started in the year 2000, promoted by the Xunta de Galicia's Toponymy Commission and coordinating its work with the SITGA (Galician Territorial Information System). All the consellerías, local administrations, neighborhood and cultural associations, mountain communities and other entities are participating in the project. In some cases, the collaborations come from people who, on their own and for personal or professional interest, decided to collect the names of their neighborhoods  with the methodology designed and applied by the PTG.

The objectives of the project are to collect all the Galician toponymy, both that referring to population entities and other geographical realities (names of lands, fountains, streams, cruises, coastal landforms...), establishing a written name and locate it cartographically. The basic motivation of the PTG is to safeguard a very rich cultural heritage seriously threatened.
